A house of music embedded in the earth, where sound is absorbed and diffused through heavy, enduring volumes.

Risonanza del Suolo (Resonance of the Ground) descends beneath the surface of a neglected urban fragment on Milan's south-eastern edge. A rewilded landscape covers the site, and light filters through its canopy into monumental concrete volumes below.

Approach

The project argues for an architecture of longevity: endurance over novelty, circular systems over artifice, and a reconnection with the living soil. Planting and ecological cycles, structure, materials, energy and acoustics were developed together, so that the building's permanence is part of its environmental strategy.

Atmosphere

Below ground, the city's noise falls away. The auditorium, foyer and galleries are shaped by darkness, filtered light and mass, so that sound is felt as much as heard.
